ENTRY FEES
U.S. Residents: $110 ($160 after February 13)
International Residents: $150 ($200 after February 13)
The field size will be limited to 25,000 athletes.
Entries from athletes meeting the qualifying times will
be accepted until the maximum field is reached. Please
note that the 2008 Boston Marathon reached its maximum
field size in late February, and we expect the 2009
Boston Marathon to fill quickly.

ELIGIBILITY & QUALIFYING
- The field size will be limited to 25,000 athletes.
- Entries from athletes meeting the qualifying times
will be accepted until the maximum field size of 25,000
is reached.
- Age on April 20, 2009 determines your qualifying
time. Age group on the day of the qualifying race
may differ.
- A qualifying time run at a race on or after September
29, 2007 will be accepted for the 2009 Boston Marathon
(even if it was also used as a qualifier for the 2008
race).
- The B.A.A. accepts net times from electronic scoring
systems.
- Athletes must be 18 years or older on April 20,
2009.
- The B.A.A. reserves the right to reject any entry,
issue special invitations, cancel the race, expand
or further limit the field, or adjust the entry procedures.
- The Boston Marathon includes a field of elite,
invited
athletes. Regardless of qualifying performance, selection
and entry into the elite field is subject to review,
and acceptances will be made on a limited basis. Entry
into the field of elite, invited athletes will be
at the sole discretion of the B.A.A.
- Entry into the Boston Marathon will be at the discretion
of the B.A.A.
To qualify for the 113th Boston Marathon, athletes
must meet the designated time standard which corresponds
to their age group. Qualifying times must have been
run on or after September 29, 2007 at a certified marathon.
Seeding is based on qualifying times, which are subject

WAVE START
The 2009 Boston Marathon will utilize a two-wave start
with Wave One starting at 10:00 a.m. followed by Wave
Two at 10:30 a.m. Corral and wave assignments will be
based on qualifying times. Entrants will be notified
of their assignments in early April. In 2008, runners
with a qualifying time faster than 3:35:00 began in
Wave One.
ELITE WOMEN'S START
The 2009 Boston Marathon will include a separate start
for top female competitors. The Elite Women's Start
(EWS) will begin prior to 10 a.m. and performances from
this start will be scored separately from women starting
at 10 a.m. Open and masters division women who consider
themselves eligible for prize money in the 2009 Boston
Marathon must declare themselves as a contestant for
the EWS start. They may send an email to ews@baa.org
for further details on format, eligibility, regulations
and instructions. Race officials can assist in determining
which startEWS or 10:00 a.m.is most appropriate.
Prize money will be awarded to contestants in the EWS
only. Women who choose not to start in the EWS waive
the right to compete for prize money.
