In a fierce battle with Sharon Cherop at last year’s Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Marathon, Tirfi Tsegaye was edged by one second at the tape. Although she was runner up, she improved her personal best to 2:22:44 and preserved a strong string of podium finishes. Tsegaye set her half marathon best of 69:24 at the IAAF World Half Marathon Championships in 2009.

PERSONAL NOTES:
Tsegaye said she looks forward to her Boston debut. “Throughout Boston’s streets a number of major athletes have made history in athletics. I also have a secret wish, that is to try and repeat the fantastic victories of Fatuma Roba, who won three straight Boston Marathons from 1997 to 1999.” Tsegaye trains in Addis Ababa and in Sululta, Sendafa, Sebeta and Entoto. She has two sisters, Belaynesh and Melesech.
